ANNE KEOTHAVONG PERFORMS ‘SPECIALLY’ FOR GREAT BRITAIN TO SECURE SEMI-FINALS SPOT
Following their 3-0 victory over Spain in the quarterfinals of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, Great Britain’s Anne Keothavong was filled with emotion.

Keothavong’s squad had previously failed to qualify for the tournament before being given a second chance when Glasgow was chosen as hosts.
After losing their first game against Kazakhstan, Britain needed to win all three of their remaining games against Spain in order to advance to the semifinals. They did it in spectacular fashion.
This is just remarkable. Keothavong said, “I am extremely pleased of this squad, each and every individual on this team has done themselves well.”
For reasons you all are aware of, we are really lucky to be in this tournament. However, to then deliver and advance to the semi-finals is wonderful.
What matters is the actual players. It was incredible to see how seriously they took today’s contest. Truly, this is a momentous occasion.

At the same time, Dart beat Paula Badosa 6-3, 6-4, and credited Watson’s previous exploits as a key factor in her own success.

It was my goal to perform as well as she did, so I’m pleased with how today went.
Alicia Barnett and Olivia Nicholls’s victory against Aliona Bolsov and Rebeka Masarova in the doubles match sealed the deal.
In the opening set, the British duo showed resolve by fighting off five break points and eventually winning the set through a tiebreak, which they converted on their second match chance.
The two teams traded breaks early in the second set, but Great Britain made the most of their opportunities to advance to Saturday’s semi-final match against Australia.
