Rachael Haynes impressive run has continued with a crucial knock

While Rachael Haynes of Australia scored the most runs in the history of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, she was eventually surpassed by fellow opener Alyssa Healy of New Zealand.

During Australia’s innings in The Final on Sunday in Christchurch, both Haynes and Healy surpassed Hockley’s record of 456 runs in the 1997 World Cup.

England’s Tammy Beaumont scored 410 runs in the 2017 edition, while South Africa’s opener Laura Wolvaardt came close to the record this year. Hockley’s record has stood for over 25 years.

Wolvaardt had 433 runs on the board going into South Africa’s semi-final match against England, but he was out for a duck and the Proteas were eliminated.

That set the stage for Haynes and Healy to break the record in Sunday’s final, where both players contributed significantly to the team’s success and continuing their stellar tournament careers to that point.

Haynes hit 68 from 93 balls, bringing her tournament total to 497, but Healy’s incredible performance of 170 propelled her to a new record of 509.
